Employability (English)
An English degree is a flexible degree and opens up to its graduates a wide range of possible jobs. Employers value the communication skills of English graduates, both in spoken and written language, as well as the analytic abilities and independence they develop during the course of their degree. English graduates perform as well as most other graduates in obtaining employment and securing 'graduate level' jobs. In recent years graduates from Salford have gone into local government and the Civil Service; teaching (secondary and FE); publishing; journalism; media; management in the commercial and business sector; law; accounting; teaching overseas. Each year a number of our graduates also go on to postgraduate studies. To find out more about employment prospects for English Graduates, visit www.whystudyenglish.ac.uk, or go to the English Subject Centre report and see why doing an English degree can be such a rewarding and positive personal and professional career choice.
You can also visit After English, a website designed for English students that has plenty of ideas, exercises and links to follow to help you to think about future career options. It very clearly spells out the value an English degree has within the job market.
